do OB's do water births?

I have an OB and im 37 weeks in a few days am i still able to get a water birth at the hospital?? :/

You would have to talk to your doctor. Some do if the hospital allows it (typically if they have insurance for it) but even if they don't do water births you may have the option of laboring in a tub. But it really depends on the doctor and the hospital.

My first water birth was 10 years ago in a hospital with a midwife. It was covered by insurance just like a regular vaginal birth. I know of more progressive OB's who do them. As stated before, it's dependent on hospital policy and their liability insurance coverage so it would be something you'd need to ask about ahead of time and plan for with your provider.

Your doctor likely does not - you can ask though and they might have a lead for you even if not.

If they don't know, Check the local hospitals first to find out which hospitals do them and then find out who has priveliges to do them; at the ones near me they all offer water birth but only if you transfer care to the special midwives at that hospital.

Most OBs won't do it. They normally don't have water births at hospitals. They normally have them at birthing centers or at home. I would call a local mid-wife and ask them if they can take you still.

We have two hospitals locally who do it. But they make you take special classes and sign extra wavers.

We are having ours at a birthing center. In order to use the birthing center you must be low risk and some do not take insurance. We've been with the birthing center the whole time and it was $5000. Then they file as out of network afterward and any money you receive back, they give you.

You'll need to google what's in your area. But, it's not one of those things that you can just walk in and say "I want that" in most places as most don't offer it.
