HAIR RELAXER??

Question

So I haven't relaxed my hair in almost two years. I'm really considering relaxing my hair, as it becomes unmanageable when not in a protective style. I also want some highlights or color. I can get a natural silk press but appointments can take up to weeks. Any suggestions???? Please!

I haven't permed my hair since I was 19. I've  had sisterlocks for 14 yrs. I've grown them out long and chopped them in a short bob. Locs are so good for a carefree lifestyle. Low maintenance. I dye mine (to cover my gray) and add highlights, but aside from that and buying natural oils, having them has cost me very little. It's freedom x 100.

I hate perm. It makes me sad when I see women with their hair super thin or nearly bald and they are still perming. I've seen comb overs on women. Like what's it gonna take, honey? Smh

I'm not going to lie I was saying same words as the first few comments up until last September. I was natural for 5 years and then I just gave up. My hair wasn't growing, it was so hard to maintain. I co-washed/deep conditioned all the time it never worked. I cut at least 15 inches of bad ends over the years my ends were always bad, no matter what I tried. I tried all kinds of protective styling and all the same results for 5 years. I gave up. All I can say is I'm happy with my hair as it is right now but if I could go back I would have tried locs maybe. I'm happy I don't need to struggle with my hair anymore though. I feel so bad for saying these things because it's my natural hair that grows out of my roots and I should embrace it. I love my natural hair it's just that my hair is so much easier to maintain relaxed. I'm Nigerian so I'm talking real African hair.

I'd suggest just leaving it in twists or braids for a few days so you wouldn't be doing anything to your hair. Then after a few days you can unravel them or just leave it in till it's your wash day again

I wouldn't. And haven't in 14 years. With a very good stylist that uses good professional products you should get the same results. I do. And don't ever feel bad about bringing your own shampoo or conditioner w you. I've found w my many years of salon experiences, at times it may be a great stylist but the owner of the spot buys cheap products. Either or too

Having been chemical free for the last 8 years .. noooooo don't do it. Relaxers are so harmful to your hair. I'm not knockin anyone that does but since u asked for our opinions , there's mine lol.

Girl I'm in the same boat. I wanna relax it or just chop it all off again 😩 I've truly been thinking about wearing wigs bc I can't deal w/ my natural hair.
