I give him a spoon to play with while I feed him with a spoon. Showing him how to use it but he just plays with it and puts it in his mouth with no food on it.

She makes a mess, but she enjoys using the spoon to feed herself.

She has also decided that she gets to brush her own teeth and refuses to let me do it, lol.

I put food on the spoon then hand it to her. It's not too messy most the time, occasionally she'll decide to wave the spoon around though. And she's not a fan of giving it back for me to put more food on.

My daughter gets a spoon or fork to hold while she's eating. She'll hand it to us to load up, not so good at scooping or stabbing yet :) most of the time the food on the spoon goes down her front and then she ends up finger feeding it to herself, so we've started just using the spoon if the food will stick to it a little (fruit, sometimes noodles or rice, yogurt, etc) she's messy but she's figuring it out and I want to encourage it now before she thinks everything is finger food.

My son finger feeds himself for the most part, and it's not even messy anymore. I did buy him the bendy BOON brand fork and spoon set, the end bends in a little so it's not as messy when he tries to feed himself with it. He still ditches it after a couple bites and goes to his hands. He will catch on soon enough.

I have given my daughter her own spoon every meal for what seems like forever. It was the only was to keep her hands out of the bowl of food or to get her to stop slapping her food away. I'd let her try and get food on her spoon herself during her feeds. I have  her a spoon the other day and she literally just started feeding herself like she's been doing it all along. I'm amazed.

My LO will put a pre-loaded spoon into his mouth. We are working on scooping from the bowl, but he mostly just wants to grab all the food with his hands and play. It goes better when he's hungry. When he's about full, he just wants to play

I give him a spoon to play with if im feeding him off a spoon but im in noooo rush to push him to learn it! Half the time my three year old still has difficulties getting food from his bowl into his mouth without a mess

I'm about to start giving my son a spoon, he eats solids sometimes but still drink like 5 bottles a day smh

I let him play with it.  he gets it to his mouth but he would definitely be getting food everywhere.  I'll keep letting him play with it until he seems pretty good with it.
