Time doesn't exist??

Question

My boyfriend said time doesn't actually exist. We make it up. My mind is kind of blown. Is that scientifically correct?

Basically yes. It's just a construct we use to keep us organized. As humans we crave structure and time always follows structure; never goes backwards, might stop at some point, but we do know it will always go forward. You should watch lectures about time by physicists, cool shit.

This is so debatable but I'd have to agree. Time is something we, as humans, have created and manifested. It's crazy. Google arguments and thoughts on it, your mind will be blown! However you'll get both sides of the argument.

Time is a construct that, though based on naturally recurring patterns (such as the rotation of the earth around the sun and it's own axis), is very much human made. I can only speak from a humanities perspective: We are living in linear time, meaning that we have a past that has been lived and a present that in turn determines the future; events that have happened are sorted into time periods such as Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Modernity, etc., all labels that are used to simplify our understanding of what has happened and when it happened so that we can more easily grasp it. In addition, people used to abide by cicardian rythms in the past, meaning that they arose with the sun and went to bed by sunset; sunlight hours in winter and summer are drastically different! So with the industrial revolution, time was introduced into working schedules, as to count hours of productivity; time zones were introduced in order to determine when to dispatch trains and avoid train crashes due to time differences across large expanses of territory, such as the US. Time is more than just a way to measure the passing of seconds, minutes, hours, weeks and months; it is also a way of measuring productivity.
