Is a Moses basket essential?

Question

Just a quick question! 
Me and my SO were writing our to do list yesterday and of course we wrote a crib and a Moses basket. I read somewhere that a Moses basket was just an "easier" way of the baby being in your room. Could the crib be in our room for the first period or is it more of a better sleeping arrangement/ safer for the baby being in the Moses basket? Thanks in advance!

I had one with my youngest and I loved it just because I could put him on the counter when I cooked. But you can definitely put the baby strain in the crib. You could also buy a pack n play with a bassinet for your room or just anywhere in the house. Works great for when your at families too.

i personally this time gunna go straight away with a cot because with my first i had a crib he was only it that for about 2 months and then went into a cot (luckily i didnt need to buy any of it as my mum had the stuff kept from when she had my baby sister) and ive heard from friends and other people saying that moses baskets are pointless unless you got the money to waste a few told me that their baby/s were only in the moses basket for about 2 weeks to a month and some said that they didnt even like them so then had to go out and get a crib/cot within a week ...but its always your choice

I am not sure never used one i bought a pack and play for downstairs. I two puppies i am little nervous that they would go into the basket.

They can go straight into a cot, but i did use mine with my first alot and so i have got another one for this baby, its so much easier to carry the moses basket downstairs to sleep, and during the day in the first couple of months the baby slept in the moses basket in the living room just because it was easier for me to have the baby downstairs during the day, and its better for babies back and posture to be flat and not in her bouncer when downstairs.

The crib in your room is fine. Only reason I got a bassinet was the space issue

You can put baby straight in the crib if you want.  The Moses basket is a preference, not a need
