Cloth mom's how did you get dad on board?!

Question

I am reading some articles now but my hubby was pointing out to me "how cheap" diapers are at buy buy baby last weekend. I'm like babies use THOUSANDS of disposable diapers babe.

How can I get him to realize it will save us money? I'm already stressing about how we're going to afford child care if my mom gets this new job (she was going to watch in summer). I even showed him how a simple insert worked and told him it's not that bad. He used to say he's not gonna change diapers, now I think he realizes that will mean we would fight lol and child abuse.

He thinks we're gonna be all set from our shower. I'm like ummm kids wear diapers for like 2 years. I just saw a stat 9000 diapers in 2 years ughhh! omg?!!!

I am the "accountant" for our finances and I'm stressing bc I need to save almost $5k just for me to take maternity leave(that's only including my student loans, car note, and health insurance while on leave) so obvy I'll do things to save us money.  We both have sensitive skin so it makes me nervous to try to do throw away diaper stock piling too. Financially we're in better positions than our parents were but we don't have a lot of extra money ever since my husband took a job closer to home. I'm getting stressed thinking about all the money & he's like don't worry about it.... 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ but how can I not?!

Mention that if you want any more kids your diaper cost becomes 9000 x cost per diaper x number of kids. If you cloth diaper it's 20 x 20. Even that is on the high end!

Tell him to grow a pair and use the damn cloth. They're not nasty and cheap as hell in the long run. I didn't give mine a choice. I said this is what we're using and that was that. We're having our second and cloth diapering again.

My husband was on board for cloth and changes diapers, but I do all the laundry, cloth diapers included.  It doesn't bother me at all-I have my system and don't want anyone messing with it. :) Good luck!  This is my 2nd baby in cloth and I love it.

I'd literally just get your facts, and numbers, and present it to him. Facts don't lie, while it seems expensive in the beginning to buy cloth (unless you go gently used on buy sell sites) you save so much in the end. Calculate how much 9000 -or whatever number you had-diapers would cost and then the cost of a set up of cloth diapers. He will jump on board eventually I'm sure.

Look up the numbers...there are LOTS  articles on the price comparison of disposables vs cloth. The average family spends $1500-2000 on disposable diapers per kid per year. Where I spent (going into using them with 2nd kid and had to replace most of my covers) around $600 total on diapers. There are some really good breakdowns online. This was the convincing factor for my hubs. He was initially pretty skeptical too. Now he loves them. Even if you spend more on all in ones that are set up exactly like a disposable, you'll still save money.... It is more upfront, but in the long run you save a bunch.

My husband is the thrifty (aka cheap haha) one so doing the math on what both kinds of diapers cost alone got him on board. The other thing I did was not expect him to change diapers. Sometimes guys don't like to look like they don't know what they're doing and are stubborn about doing things they're unfamiliar with. I just had him watch diaper changes and once he was comfortable he jumped right in. This morning, for example, I had some leftover disposable diapers from our weekend trip, and he put the baby in a cloth diaper all by himself. I was a proud wife. But anyway, give him time and ease him into it. Lastly, my baby rarely gets rashy. He's had one rash and it a) was very mild and b) due to a supplement I gave to him. Good luck!

It's better for the baby. Cheap disposable diapers often contain dangerous chemicals that can affect the long term health of you baby. These chemicals are pressed up against your baby's private parts. If he's not convinced for financial reasons, perhaps health reasons will resonate with him.

I just told him we'd save so much money. Got a little over $800 worth of cloth diapering stuff for less than $200 all Brand new, and we already got our investment worth in less than 4 months. He freaked at first when he saw that the price per diapers were $20+. He was just worried that I would end up not liking it.

What is he opposed to with changing cloth diapers? You take it off, throw it in the wet bag.  Maybe if you agree to do the actual laundry part of it, he would reconsider? My husband wasn't too sure about cloth diapering at first.  I showed him how much money we would save, and told him I would be the one doing the laundry (I do all the laundry anyway). He said he's willing to give it a try if it's what I really want.
