acrylic nails, yes or no?

I have been getting acrylic nails for the past few months and one just fell off (I have been meaning to get them done so they are a little over due) and seeing my nail made me question if I should get them done again. My finger feels a little sore because I have been filing it. I have been excited to get them again because I know the color and it is for my mother's birthday, we are going away. Should I get them again or do you think the nail ladies would be rough and butcher my nail? I am stuck. I don't want it to hurt, my I also want my nails to look good.
