Mono from a water fountain?

My boyfriend get mono and he claims its from a water fountain. Is that possible?

Very specific if I do say so myself.. Does he know the exact water fountain too? Lol. Mono could be caused by an outside source, but something just doesnt click with that statement. But if you trust him, and there have been no mishaps between the two of you, take his word for it I guess. Goodluck!

The ONLY reason I woundnt believe him is because he happens to specifically know he got it from a water fountain, which seems like a well thought out lie.

Listen it might be possible to get it that way, I don't know. But it seems way more likely that he simply wouldn't know where he got it from before he would deduce that it's from a water fountain. How would he even know that?? This sounds like a crazy specific lie. And if he has to lie, he's covering something up.

Since it spreads mainly through saliva, yes. You can get it from making out, sharing drinks and cutlery with someone infected etc.

I got mono in high school from a shared drink with my best friend who was diagnosed with it the next day. However, when someone has such an interesting reason for having it, I would question it. That's kind of like saying you got an STI from a toilet seat. Fishy fishy. However, that's my personal opinion. When it comes down to it: trust your gut. We can't tell you if he cheated or not, unless it was with one of us. It's all circumstantial. However, if you are asking us, I think you already know what your intuition  is telling you. GL.

He also could have gotten it from you because mononucleosis is an infection that 87% of people have it just takes someone/something to trigger it

If he had an STI then I'd say you'd be right to be suspicious or even accusatory. But, despite MONO being known as 'the kissing disease,' most people do not catch it that way. He may have gotten it from a water fountain. Or by sharing a drink. Or any number of ways. Chances are he didn't get it cheating.

My husband got mono from sharing his water bottle with the guys at work. My kids and I all shared his cups when he was home and we never caught it. All you need is saliva or mucus to enter your body.
