BDSM: Is BDSM abuse?
We know that hitting our partners or calling them names is abusive. So what's the difference between abuse and BDSM?
In a word: Consent. Abuse is when one person exerts control over another through physical, verbal, emotional, or psychological violence. It is never consensual.
BDSM, on the other hand, is always consensual, negotiated, and wanted. In BDSM, partners discuss what they want and don't want to do, and they can stop the behavior at any time. Like any other relationships, BDSM becomes abuse when one person doesn't respect the other person's boundaries or consent.
