Its not really a custom thing in my country :) ppl purchase stuff at random or gift things they had that they think I might need family and friends :) and slowly I have been able to get together a lot of things that are useful.

As we all live in small apartments, a baby shower requires a hall or bar rental in NYC. The cheapest quotes I was getting came in at over 2k for a small party.. that is half my budget for the kid's first year of life. I decided to put that money towards the kid, and opt out of a baby shower.
