Door to door salesmen

I just recently moved into a nice apartment. Nicest I've ever lived in. (Gated community and lots of benefits such as pool, bowling alley, etc). I've never had to deal with door to door sales people before really but since I've moved in there have been at least 3 in the last four months. Have any of you ever been door to door salesmen? Do they target certain neighborhoods more than others? One woman was so pushy she told my husband he could afford to buy a magazine because we had a nice apartment. She kept trying to guilt him into buying merchandise because of the neighborhood we live in! And they always come late around dinner time too or after dark.
