Help!

I noticed we been getting more roaches in our apartment. I got some medicine from Walmart all I got to do is put it around in cracks or sides of doors. I've been noticing a lot of big roaches been dying and coming out more that the little ones. Why would this be? We put some down like 3 days ago and so far I saw 8 or 9 that is the most I ever seen.
