Birth Story
Well, he's here! Sebastian Hawk Sones-Lux, born on his due date, 3/23/17, weighing 7lbs 2oz and 19in long.
Went to my 39 week appt and I was still at 3 cm, 70% efaced. My Dr set me up for induction for that Tuesday at 5am due to polyhydramnios. Woke up that morning and called the womens center, my sister had flown in from Ca the night before, and they told me they were busy with deliveries and to call back at 10 am. At 10 am, they said call at noon. At noon, they said call at 4pm. At 4, they said Dr had rescheduled me to Friday. THREE days later! And my sister would be back home. So called my OB, threw a bit of a fit and was moved to 7am the next morning. Called the at six and they said to call back at noon. At noon, they said 2. At this point, i want starting to feel devasted. Like it was going to be cancelled all over again. But at 2, they finally said to come in at 4:30.
Took us a couple of hours to check in but the pitocin was started by about 6:30 and I was still at 3 cm.
The contractions started to get much stonger. I never felt much pain, just a lot more pressure and some discomfort. The nurse asked if i wanted my epidural and I told her it wasnt really painfyl yet. She said, well if you KNOW youre going to want one, why wait?
So, i got that placed at around 9pm and was at about a 5.
I have to say, after having been induced before and knowing the extreme pain it causes, and hearing horror stories about misplaced epidurals that didnt work or wore off by the time to push, I really wasnt very confident it would be the savior I had heard. I kept expecting the pain to come on through - but it never did!
I stayed at a 5 for hours. No real change at all until my water broke in bed when i was laying on my side trying to get some sleep. It was 1 am and i felt a pop and a bit of a trickle. The nurse came and checked me and said it did break, but it must be high up because i still had a lot of fluid and his head was still floating. Two hours later, i was only at a six. Then the Dr came in and broke my bag completely at 4am. Thats when things started moving since the contractions could now push his head against my cervix.
I was finally 9 1/2 at about 5:30 and the nurse said we'd give it another hour or to tell her if i felt the urge to push.
I felt like i needed to take a poop pretty bad just after six and she checked me. I was at a 10! And she said we were going to start pushing to see where we were at and she would get the Dr once he moved down. I pushed through the next contraction a statted crowning immediately. So, she got the Dr and 3 contractions later, he was out! Born at 6:49 am. And he is perfect in every way.
I really hope that you cant die of happiness. Because if you can, I'm done for!
Ladies - for real - GET THE EPIDURAL! I've given birth 3 times and this is the only one I was coherent for. I can actually REMEMER everthing and I would trade that memory for the world!
