poor latch or thrush??

I am having shooting pains in my breasts and it is super painful when he latches. Not sure if it's thrush or just a poor latch. My nipples are white then pink after he nurses. We've both been to the doctor who said no thrush, but I'm not convinced. My boobs hurt so bad! He is 9 1/2 weeks and I am determined to keep breastfeeding, I just need to figure out why I'm having the pains.

Oh and I did use a cream for a few days with no relief, the doctor said if it was thrush it would have gotten better with cream.

I had thrush and it is so super painful. Do your nipples look shinier than normal? Your lactation consultant should be able to diagnose it. It took awhile for me to get rid of it, but the pain greatly decreased in a few days. 14 days of diflucan for you and oral nystatin for baby is the standard treatment.

It could very well be a bad latch. My son kept having a poor latch in the first week and my breast was sooo painful. Make sure baby's lips are curled outwards when suckling. Baby's chin should not be tucked down. if there is a bad latch try breaking the seal by sticking your finger inside baby's mouth so you can detach him without hurting your nipple. If you can talk to a lactation consultant who can help you figure out better positioning.
