thoughts on tv

I read somewhere that even having the tv on in the background could disrupt babies learning or listening abilities. Usually at my house the tv is on whether we're watching it or my SO is playing a game on it. Should that not be a thing? My baby isn't born yet but I'm just thinking ahead if we should change how we do things with the tv. Does it disrupt or bother newborns?
