Metformin for Diabetes while pregnant.

I was told I had GD when I was just 20 weeks or so. I have been trying my hardest to control my sugar levels with the diet because I love sweets. I have good numbers during the day but high fasting numbers, not everyday but more than the dr would like. Its honestly due to what I eat, which I relapse on sugar. Anyway I was told I should just start the metformin but I think taking any meds while pregnant is just horrible. This is my true opinion and I know people are different but I would like to know about the babies born and if they were healthy or different at all to other peoples who didnt have to take it. Thanks
