If guns can't kill, can they save people?

All the time in here I see the argument that "guns don't kill, people kill because guns can't pull their own trigger".

So, can guns protect people or does the same rule apply, that guns can't save people because they can't pull their own trigger?

People always say you can't blame the tool, yet you praise it for killing the "bad guy".

No. It's STILL a human that pulls the trigger in both situations. 
U can have a gun sitting next to u, but if u don't grab it and pull the trigger when someone broke into your home,  u still end up dead, because u didn't use it.
Guns DON'T kill people
Guns DON'T save people.
PEOPLE kill people.
PEOPLE save people. The common thing between these two is the tool- the gun. If PEOPLE use it right,  they SAVE lives. 
A gun is absolutely worthless if PEOPLE don't use it.

People with guns save people. There, better? My cousin would've been raped had she not had a gun on her. She was able to get away and get him arrested. Bottom line is, the tool isn't responsible for the actions performed; it all depends on the person wielding it.

And for the moron (that conveniently deleted her comment about having a dog and an alarm system. Here's what I commented to ur stupid idiotic comment:
My fiance and I, lived in a home 2 years ago with a very secure alarm system and had a three years old pitbull. One day I was on my porch talking to my parents on the phone about going away for two weeks and needing them to watch over our house and our dog. Our house has big signs everywhere that's a pitbull on duty , and also signs about our house being 24 hrs monitored and secured. 
Two lines after that house got broken into by an adult male with a knife. Our beloved Pitbull got stabbed 5 times in the jugular and killed. Our bedroom light came on and he still attempted to come in knowing very well at this point that there's people inside the house. His intentions or very clear after killing our dog we were next. His only mistake is not realize then we both own guns and have them by the side of the bed and safes. The moment you open the door to the bedroom he was looking at the barrel off two 45s pointing at him. Immediately he laid on the ground and begged to not shoot. He was handcuffed by me(yes, I don't fuck around), and we waited for the police to arrive. Had we not had our guns I'm pretty sure we both would not be here to tell the story. Moral of this story is that my dog is dead and the alarm system warnings along with all the dog warning signs did absolutely nothing to deter a criminal from breaking into her home and killing our dog. Turns out that the criminal was a random ass person that overheard the conversation I had with my parents on my porch as he was walking by. Having a gun or two in our case, absolutely saved Our Lives. Same cannot be said for our beloved dog that even though she put up a good fight ended up dead.
So to sum it up I do not believe that an alarm system, a dog and all the warnings in the world,  will be able to deter a criminal nor stop them once they are in your house

I think with the proper checking and training, guns can be a very positive thing. They can't save you, but a person who knows how to properly use a gun, and is mentally able to own a gun is more likely to save you than harm you.

Honestly I think the whole "guns don't kill, people do" is annoying. Sure the person has to pull the trigger, but without the gun, would they be able to "kill" or "save" as easily? And often, they kill as they save. And you're right. People are always saying "they'd still find a way to murder" but yet you can't find another way to protect and save yourself? I am not even anti gun ownership, but the arguments surrounding it are silly. People will justify it by saying criminals will find a way to get guns either way, but why not make it more difficult for them to obtain them? What's wrong with stronger gun laws?
