Stopping BC mid cycle

Has anyone else stopped birth control mid cycle?  What happened to your period the next month. I stopped my birth control the week before my placebo week (partially on accident..forgot to take 3 pills in a row and had planned to stop that cycle anyways so I didn't think it made sense to try to follow whatever rules to catch back up just to start back again.  I started my period about 5 days before I normally would have since I stopped the pills, so according to that I should have started again on Wednesday.  However, if I was still on the pill, my normal period would be next Wed.  I am not ttc right now, just trying to get ready to start in June.  I'm just wondering if it's normal to have an off cycle the first month or so after stopping BC, especially if stopping before the end of the pill pack.  Thanks!
