Who should be responsible for the elderly?

I think both because what if they didn't have children? Or any loved ones alive, should they be abandoned?? I think we as a society need to care for them as well.

I think it is the person's individual responsibility to make sure they have the tools to grow old securely and it's families responsibility to help if they are unable as well as help make their life easier even if they are able and it is the government's responsibility to step in if all else fails to help fill in the gaps. After all they shouldn't take all those taxes for nothing.

I think people should prepare by having a retirement account, so they aren't a financial burden on others. And if family is able to care for them, they should.

I would say everyone's responsible to some degree.

It is the government for their benifits and CPP, their kids (if any) to make sure they are in a place they can be cared for properly be it home nurse or what ever, and their own to know when they need to give up driving, their home, and the extra means to take care of themselves.

This being said. My father is his family's responsibility. I'm all my mom has left.

It always surprises me how so many people don't bother with their family. I see it all the time in my job 😕. I totally get you don't know what happens behind closed doors but 😕 I dunno. We did literally everything for my grandad before he died and we do now with grandma. We have some family who are awful, nasty people anyway and make no effort, (There's more to it than just that) but I find it hard to understand. But anyway, I think family and government

The government should provide the resources and have them accessible to the elderly person BUT overall I think the family should definitely be involved...now if the elderly person has no family then that's when the government should take over completely but I mean yeah what is family for if they can't help
