how long does plan b bleeding last?

I'm on day 3. I had just finished my period two days priar, I took plan b and now I'm on day 3 of plan b bleeding. It smells odd, it's bright red, some clots. Not heavy, but enough to be on the pad. How long does it last? If I start birth control will the two merge together and stop? I just want it to stop.
