Should there be a limit to how long someone in a coma &/or brain dead can be on life support?

It's just selfish to keep someone "alive" because you don't want to let them go, IMO.

7 years ago, my sisters friend was in a coma. She became brain dead, and as soon as the family found out, they said their goodbyes and turned the life support off. Even though Amy was dead, they didn't want her to suffer anymore than she had. They did the right thing for her, I say.

I think there should be a limit but I've never really thought about what the limit should be. You need to consider a persons quality of life, I wouldn't want to be hooked up to a machine just 'existing' for god knows how long. Just pull the plug, I don't want to suffer for a long time 'just in case'.

I dunno. Because some people do wake up from comas. But brain dead, there is no coming back from that. So yes for brain dead

I live in Canada and my brother got into a bad car accident was I was 15, he was 20. He survived his injuries and was expected to make a full recovery. He had a mild heart attack and feel unconscious. Once you have no oxygen going to your brain you go brain dead and this is what happened to by brother. They spent 3 days trying various tests, and the test results where he was brain dead (no brain activity at all) so after the 3 day mark we have to take him off life support and he passed away. There was nothing they could have don't to save him after trying for 3 days so I think yes there should be a time limit.

Not if they are paying for it and it's not taking up resources that are needed by others.
If it's tax payer funded I think there should be a time limit. But it should be a generous time limit and depend on the injury/situation.
