How often is it OK to be honest?

I find myself being honest and almost every situation and sometimes people take my honesty the wrong way so I feel like there are certain times I shouldn't be totally honest is it really my bad should I not be honest all the time?

My view is be honest if you would want to hear it in their situation. Now, that does have some stipulations, I'm not going to want to hear my OH is cheating on me... tell me anyways. But, when I was 4 years old would I want to hear my mother abandoned me? Or that she went away on vacation for a while?

If you think that people are taking your "honesty" in the wrong way, next time check if you really are being honest or just being rude. I mean, I had the same problem in my personal life, I was aaall proud of my honesty trait until I realized I was just being a bitch to those around me.

There has to be a balance between being honest and being empathetic. Is what you are saying going to help the situation? Or are you seeking attention and drama by being "honest"? You have to be able to keep it to yourself sometimes.

i would say 90% because it's importan to be honest, but it's also important to know when you're honesty shouldn't be shared (i.e. being offensive/rude to someone)

I've never been honest 100% of my life, it completely depends on the situation. I don't out and out lie but I'll turn the truth into what they need to hear, eg, when my nephew was old enough to realise he didn't live with his mam and she never saw him did I tell him 'sorry hunny your mam didn't want you because she'd rather go out shagging the nearest person and getting drunk/high' no I told him 'when you were very young mam couldn't look after you as well as we could so we sat down and agreed you should live with us so your a happier boy'. It depends on the audience, I'd say I'm honest 80/90% of the time

You can be honest 100% of the time, you just have to know how to word things so they wont hurt anyone. 
People have different characteristics and personalities. Not everyone can take a blunt hinest opinion in a good way.

I consider myself a very honest person. I'm not really big on lying because I'm scared it will backfire and I really believe in karma. This post is a bit tricky for me. I guess I would have to say I'm not completely honest afterall. For example,  If someone at work tells me they just got their hair done and they are fascinated by the results and ask me if I like it, I don't find the need to tell them the hairstylist did a horrible job. I would probably say something nice even if I don't  like it. I don't like to hurt people's feelings. We are all a bit dishonest once and a while. Even sometimes when someone greets us and asks how we are doing and we say we are doing fine, doesn't always mean exactly that. I'm sure the cashier at Walmart doesn't want to hear that my boyfriend ate the last slice of pizza and that's the reason I'm so upset. Lol. We all lie sometimes.
