I cut off ties with my dad. He was abusive to me and my family growing up. He's bipolar, which is not an excuse, especially since he always refused treatment. My life has been so much better without him in it. I choose to remember him by the few good times we did have together, and move on. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here.

Abuse is abuse. All types, not just physical. Would one go back to an abusive ex bf or husband?? It's the same thing. Just cause she's your mom, it shouldn't matter. In fact, I think it's worse because one expects a certain level of love and respect from their own mama.

Your mother can still be a disrespectful piece of shit and if it makes you happier and more peaceful to cut her out of your life, then you should cut her out of your life.

Been there. It took me until I was 15 to stop talking to my mom. She was verbally and physically abusive and growing up I was the sweetest little girl who still lives her very much. My parents were separated and we stayed with my dad, but she was still around and was just a horrible person. I got pregnant at 18 and tried to rekindle that rekationship. It worked for a while but then it got bad again so I cut her off again. It wasn't u Tim I was pregnant with my second (I was 24) that we were good again and it has stayed that way since (I'm 26 now with baby #3 on the way). You know how it got better? 1) she stopped drinking 2) I grew up and instead of feeling hurt I let things slide right off my back and reminded myself she was an alcoholic most of her life and has never known how to be the bigger person.

You have every right to cut off your relationship, I just hope that I give you a little hope that eventually you will gain back the mother you deserved as a kid! 💗

Hell yes! My mom dropped me off at someone's doorstep when I was four years old. Before that, she kept me in her meth lab and I was considerably malnourished. When I turned 18, she contacted me trying to sneak back into my life, but sorry it doesn't work that way. I have no desire to be around that woman. She wants to see my daughter and it's not happening. She won't even get a picture. Do what you feel is right. My daughter won't have two sets of grandparents, but my boyfriend's parents are so great, they make up for it.
