unmedicated all natural birth as a FTM
FTM and my labor was like a whirlwind. Went into labor at 40 weeks and 3 days. Contractions started at 11 am. Nothing consistent. They were coming between 10-20 minutes for hours. I walked around Target for over an hour. Bounced on my ball (I had terrible lower back pain and that really helped). Did some things around the house. My husband works an hour away so he left work at 3:30, after contractions were about 10 minutes apart for over an hour. When he got home we took the dogs for a walk. And shortly after, about 6 or 6:30 they jumped to 5-6 minutes apart. They stayed like this for a while. Some were strong I had to stop and breathe through others were no more than cramps.

I called my midwife at 8:30 to tell her what was going on. She said when they got more consistent in intensity to give her a call. Contractions stayed the same. I was bouncing on my ball when after about 3 intense contractions in my uterus (I was used to back pain) my mom suggested I switch positions. I went to stand up when my water broke. This was at about 11:30. I went from some barely noticeable contractions every 4-5 minutes to contractions every 2 minutes lasting a minute immediately. We called the midwife and raced to the hospital.
Got there and was only 3 cms and 90% effaced. I was so discouraged (planning a natural birth). I threw up twice from the intensity and not getting any breaks. My midwife suggested an IV bc if I got more hydrated it would hopefully increase the time between contractions and potentially lessen intensity. Baby's heart rate was also dropping from all the distress. I immediately noticed a difference and the zofran took away nausea. I labored on my birth ball for a while working on my keeping my breathing slow and steady yo keep baby happy. After 2 hours I got checked again and was at a 5. My
Midwife suggested I get in the shower to let the water hit my back. This was a godsend. I sat on my ball while my husband continuously sprayed my back. I did this for an hour almost actually falling asleep between contractions. All of a sudden I felt the urge to push. They quickly got me out of the shower and checked. I was 8.5 cm! A few contractions later and I had just a little piece of the cervix left which my midwife pushed with her fingers since I wanted to push so bad. I pushed for an hour. She was sunny side up during labor, but as she was coming down, with the help of my midwife turned the right way. Expect her arm was up by her face (which she had at every ultrasound). This caused her to get a little stuck bc of
This She came out purple and not breathing so we couldn't delay cord clamping or do immediate skin to skin. Within 5 minutes they had her back on my chest. I ended up tearing internally needing 5 stitches and 1 on my labia.

Madilyn Ruth came into the world at 4:43 am on wednesday April 11 at 40 weeks and 4 days. Weighing 7 lbs 9 oz and 19.5 inches long. After my water broke I got to the hospital at midnight at 3 cm dilated and pushed her out at 4:43 completely drug free!
