Someone please help..

I am 19 years old and have been in love with the same person for three years. We've had a few dates but never really been exclusive because he still had feelings for his ex at the time. He no longer has those feelings and him and I are hanging out more frequently. One night after the movies we had a real heart to heart. I've always been the type to pour out my emotions and he pretty much holds it all back. Anyways I told him I needed to know how he felt considering he knows how I feel about him. (I don't wanna waste my time and hurt myself). He told me in his exact words "I love you, but I'm not in love with you."

My heart is so heavy and it literally hurts. I don't know what to do.

Can someone give me some advice, without bashing me..
