My Ectopic Experience

Ashleigh
I'm only 24 with what was my first pregnancy. I thought I would share my experience with you. I was 10 days late and I didn't want to put my hopes up by doing a pregnancy test to get a negative result so I waited to see if my period would start as I've been late before. On Wed 29th March early hours around 2am, I started to get quite harsh pains. I managed to cope until 8am where I decided to go to A&E where the nurse told me I was pregnant but not to celebrate just yet due to the pains so they took me to the early pregnancy unit. They did a scan and they couldn't locate the baby even though they said I should be 6-7 weeks. After the scan they said I might be 1-3 weeks as my blood results come back with only 276 hormone level so they told me to come back in 48 hours to see if my hormones have doubled. They believed I was constipated/trapped gas. The 30th March, the pains were much worse, so 1:30pm I finished work early to go back to the unit. They kept me in for a while and they didn't do bloods because they I being tested the next day. A few more painkillers, the pain completely dissappeared.
Friday 31st March, I went back for my blood tests and inbetween me having the blood taken and waiting for the results, I bled.. I panicked. The doctor told me that my hormone levels dropped by 2 so it looks like I'm having  miscarriage due to the unknown location, pains and the bleeding and it should be over in a few days. They told me to come back again in 48 hours to make sure my hormone levels drop further.
Sunday 2nd April the bloods were taken again and my hormone levels raised just below 300. I started crying because the doctor didn't really understand how it was possible. I did another scan which was internal and nothing could be found. Again they told me to come back in 48 hours.
I'm pretty much in the grey area at this point, I was confused, upset, fed up. I just wanted answers. I was happy the pain went though, maybe that was a sign something was ok. On the 4th April more bloods were taken and my hormones raised again and it as been the highest it's ever been over 390 which the doctor said isn't normal so I'm most likely going to lose the baby. Has the pregnancy asn't been seen on the scan previously, they still believed I was 1-3 weeks. A last minute final scan on the 4th April and they found a "mass" in my left tube which was the side I had pains. It was 14mm in size. They gave me the option to have the methotrexate injection so I could save my tube. Wednesday 5th April they did the injection and told me what would happen to my baby. They told me to come back on the 4th snd 7th day to do bloods to make sure the injection is working.
Sunday 9th April, the 4th day. Bloods were taken and they told me it's raised by a few but was completely normal as the injection is still working and that the 7th day is the most important result. When the 7th day arrived, I was completely exhausted with it all, I wanted this whole experience to be over. Wednesday 12th April had my bloods and my hormones dropped 27% so the doctors were happy and said to come back in a weeks time to do another blood test.
I carried on with my day to day things, finally was perking up a bit. Went to see friends even went to a theme park but things were finally looking up for me until Sunday 16th April arrived. I decided to go out with my girls for food and dress up/look glam. Around 12:30am I had them same pains just like the beginning of this story, I was in agony and luckily my boyfriend was there to catch me as I semi-collapsed due to the pain. I went straight to A&E as I thought my tube was rupturing as this was still a possibility. I was in A&E for 6.5 hoursand  was told I had to move hospital so I could be treated on the correct ward.
On Monday 17th April, I was given morphine, codine, painkillers and doctors felt my stomach and was sure it wasn't ruptured. They kept me in overnight. Tuesday 18th April(yesterday) the doctors come round and said I should be home today with some painkillers and they were confident it was the injection that I had a week and a bit ago was causing the pain. I disagreed and said this wasn't normal and I've had no pain like this since the 29th-30th March. They said they would do blood tests which then would give them an idea what to do.
My bloods come back and the consultant walks in my room to tell me my hormones have goneback  up and that I need a scan. I burst out crying, I was thinking how is this possible, my baby is clearly still there. I had the scan and they seen that the "mass" is still there. The consultant told me the injection didn't work and my baby as grew in size, it was 14mm and now it is 18mm. They give me two options, to have the tibe removed or have a second dose of methotrexate. We come to an agreement with my boyfriend to have injection. The consultant said if I'm still taking morphine and in pain, I will have to have the surgery. I'm currently on my hospital bed sharing my story and I really hope things come out positive. Please, remember that you know your body, if anything isn't right, tell them.
