I think that if you're with a group that don't challenge your beliefs then it generally makes you less intelligent. Like, if you just all agree all the time without really backing up your opinions.

Crime? Not smart. 
Helping with world peace and ending hunger? Smart.

I said less, I need different perspective and to be checked when I'm wrong. I can't have all 'yes women' around me. Otherwise cliques form. You can't learn from people exactly the same as you.

The more different you are, the more you compliment each other. Thus, the more opportunity to learn something you might not otherwise have been aware of.

I'd grow incredibly bored of it if there was nothing added to the conversation. My siblings are incredibly dull as we agree but they have no true thoughts on anything.

My mom is willing to debate, my dad...he's very trump? So his logic doesn't make sense but I'll still try to talk with him about stuff, my bf thank god will sometimes challenge me, but other times doesn't.

Of course I want to be around people that respect my autonomy as an LGBT+ person and woman with a womb, but I don't want zero conversation and challenges.

I think I've become more intelligent and informed and open minded by having conversations with people who have different opinions then me. Just an observation...

I think it's very good and healthy to listen to other viewpoints. And I think that people who go out of their way to do so are more intelligent.

But you don't necessarily have to surround yourself with people of differing opinions. I feel like that would stir up constant conflict 😂 and get nowhere.

Group think is real, it's bad, and it's avoidable.

I have friends with many differing perspectives on life, however, one non negotiable is a humanizing view of the world in which one believes that all other people are worthy of basic human rights.   If you don't believe any class of people are not worthy of human rights, I'm not really willing to make any sort of concession for you.  I won't be rude to you, but I also won't make time for you.

Depends on the group. If you're surrounded with by people that don't care about gaining knowledge or growing as people or are only interested in goofing off and having fun/alcohol/drugs/crime/etc then you won't be getting any smarter- in my opinion you'll probably lose some intellegance if you're not using your brain. But if you have a group of people that challenge you to think outside the box and push you to be a better person then yes I do think you get smarter- everyone in a group will have slightly different opinions, experiences and beliefs so you can learn from them if it's a good group of people.
