Is biotin safe while breast-feeding?

My hair starting shedding bad about 3 months after giving birth. I know biotin is good for hair, skin and nails but is it safe to take while nursing? I'm taking prenatal pills but I feel like I need something extra for my hair.

When does the excessive shedding stop?!!

I would just stick with the prenatal. Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin so it's harder to get into toxic levels but I don't think taking extra will give you what you're looking for. I didn't get nice thick hair while preggo but I still shed after giving birth. It's just part of the process, albeit a bit terrifying at first. I think I shed for a couple of months before going back to my typical amount of shedding. You can always ask your doctor if you think it's truly excessive or been going on for an extended period of time.

My doctor told me it's safe because any excess biotin is excreted in your urine. I took it the whole time I nursed and I have a healthy 10 month old!
