In Denial: Gestational Diabetes
So much for my healthy pregnancy ðŸ˜. I'm a 29 year old FTM who has had a fairly uneventful and enjoyable pregnancy. I am physically active and eat well-balanced, nutritious meals.Â
--
At 28 weeks 1 day, I did the two hour glucose tolerance test requested routinely by my midwife. She called me last night to let me know I had failed and would need to meet with a counselor as soon as possible.Â
--
When I logged on to look at my results (photo here), I was surprised to see two of my values were in a very healthy range, while my one hour results were only 2 mg over the standard range. I asked her if the results were conclusive and if I definitely had GD, she said the results were 100%. Based on my results, I'm finding that hard to believe.

Until I can meet with the counselor, I'm going to reduce carbs and take a 20 minute walk after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here are some concerns I have about the test; I know not many of us are medical professionals here; but I welcome your input.Â
--
1. I don't regularly eat or drink sugar, so fasting for 12 hours and then nuking my body with electric orange glucose substance, I imagine my body went into a bit of shock before sorting out what to do with it?Â
-
2. I ate Annie's macaroni and cheese the night before the test. Could this affect the results?
-
3. As mentioned, being only 2 mg over range for the 1 hour result.Â

My midwife seems to thing the results are conclusive, and while I am happy to many any changes to keep my baby healthy and have the unmedicated, natural birth we have been preparing for, I would love to hear your opinions/experiences/advice.

I'm so depressed and had nightmares all last night as I've been trying so hard to provide our little guy with everything he needs.Â
