when best time to take maternity leave ?

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and work on a busy ward in a hospital as it's coming up I have to start thinking about maternity leave when I want it to start as I have no idea when the best time is I can start it from 29 weeks I have been having problems with pains and long days as I have todo naily 13 hour days but have no idea when to start it what do people think is best time ?

I'll be taking my maternity leave at 38 weeks. I don't reccommend taking too much time off before especially if you only get 12 weeks for maternity leave( in the US) since youll want all the time that you can get to bond with your baby. Most people that I talk to take 2-4 weeks off before.

I get 52 weeks of in the uk and have two other children so was just thinking taking some time with them before the new baby comes and was not planning on taking a hole year out or work I have been have really bad pains and been in hospital so I am kinda stuck in a rut

Depends on where you live and your work's policy and shirt term disability, long term disability and fml. You can't just walk out without a doctor's letter and forms filled out etc.  A bit of pain will not give you a medical reason.  Drink plenty of water and eat healthy.  Many women work busy medical jobs with long shifts until late 3rd trimester or even until delivery.  Talk to your partner,  doctor and human resources

Im going to have my maternity leave when 35 weeks because ill be due in a month and a week

I work at a pretty busy vet clinic and was still in the floor wrestling dogs, cats, etc. up until my due date working 12 hours days. My last day was on like a Thursday and I went into labor on Saturday and had my son early Sunday morning. It was pretty exhausting towards the end but I made it👍 Every pregnancy is different though take the time you need if you need it.

It really just depends on if you need time ahead to prepare last minute things and relax beforehand. Also some people who have demanding jobs may feel the need to leave early because of physical reasons. With my previous 2 pregnancies i worked up until i went into labor. I worked in the pharmacy where i got two 15min breaks plus an hr lunch it didn't phase me. I now work at a doctors office and am on my feet 9.5hrs with a 30min lunch. I'm only 23 weeks and my dr has just requested my hours be cut so im not sure working up till labor will work this time but im hopeful.

In Canada, one can leave up to 10 weeks before.  I am at work until the day before and then back after the weekend.

Kind of when they feel the need to. Everyone is different with it. If you feel you need to rest and take leave soon then do what you think is best for you. Me personally I'm going to keep working prettt much until I go into labor then take leave for 6 weeks. But I also don't have much of a choice but to do it that way. If I could I'd probably take the last few weeks before my due date off then as much time as I could with the baby.
