Doctors Visits ?

Hi,
My question is about Doctors visits. I am 28 weeks pregnant with my first. I love my doctors office, my doctor, and the nurse practitioner that I see mostly. I see a lot of moms posting about their journey and complications. Such as low fluid etc. 
My visits seems sooo short they measure my belly and listen to the heart beat. Then I'm done and on my way. Last visit the heart beat was fast and then came down. I didn't have any sugary drinks or food so it made me nervous. The nurse practitioner shrugged it off because it came down but she initially seemed concerned. Anyways to get to the point... my visits seem so fast to really check the welfare of the baby. Any advice ? How did those of you having complications find out ? Blood work maybe ?

That's how my appointments were. It literally took 5 minutes that I was in and out. There just wasn't anything they were concerned about it that I need to be there longer or needed anything else done. They'll definitely tell you if they think something's wrong and they need to do more work.

I wouldn't worry too much, I'm the same way as you.  Like exactly.  I even had a heartbeat reading that was high with no sugary drinks.  The LPN took it the first time and baby got all riled up for no reason.  Started squirming and kicked the Doppler. Whole nine yards.  Doctor came in and talked to us,  took the reading again and baby calmed down.  This was almost 10 weeks ago give or take. I'm now 37w5d and waiting to meet my healthy little one :)

Low fluid would be found when measuring your belly, if the size has decreased and followed up with an ultrasound. Only about 4 percent of pregnancies have this issue. 
I have a healthy pregnancy and my appointments last maybe 10 minutes at most. I leave a urine sample before each visit and it is checked for protein or signs of infection. They identify preeclampsia by an elevated blood pressure.

The only abnormalities found through blood work would be the screenings that can be done around 12 weeks, for genetic conditions.

That's all they do at the appointments unless you're high risk or they have a big concern. The only appointments I had anything different at than just a belly measurement and Listening to the HR was 8 weeks at my dating scan, 12 weeks for my genetic testing, 20 weeks for my anatomy scan and then 32 weeks I had a growth scan because I'm high risk and was measuring only 28 weeks. Other than that though there's nothing else they usually do at your monthly check ups.

You wouldn't be able to find any complications like low fluid at your regular checkup with your OB. The fluid is measured during ultrasounds. Most complications are definitely caught during blood work or ultrasounds. Irregular heartbeats are kinda common during weeks 16-25 from what I know. My baby boy had an arrhythmia but it sorted itself out. If it is still there during the last trimester they might look more into it, but I wouldn't worry about it if it came down. Sometimes if they push too hard with the doppler or if they pick up both yours and baby's heartbeat at the same time it can give a false heart rate, too. At your 20 week scan (not sure how far along you are) they will check everything! Just try to stay calm for the baby until then if you haven't already had it ❤️
