Yes. I live in Colorado and they try to make things better with equalization. Where the "richer" districts are required to submit a portion of their property taxes to the "poorer" districts. The idea is that all districts get the same per pupil funding. The problem is that the "richer" districts just find other ways to raise money so it doesn't actually work.

I said no. In my area the poorest school district gets the most state money (and we're talking like $230 million or so). The 'richer' areas don't get as much state funding, but it's made up by the people paying more in school taxes.

I went to 2 different schools in one district for all 4 years of high school. 9th grade was the worst school in the county 10th was a reasonably "wealthy" public school. Moved from I.E to OC with my dad to finish 10th grade at another "poor" school. To finish off 11/12th at the "rich people" school. I would have to say based of that I think that's how it already works out. I noticed at the "wealthier" schools they had less funding but parents donated a lot to programs or had "connections" like different parents owned diffent types of companies so a lot of that schools funding was through parent donations. It was also incentive for parents to be involved most teachers would give extra credit to those who donated anything small like markers, papers, school supplies. If another student brought a back pack for another student they would either get recognition, extra credit or both. As for the lower income schools. While there was still incentive for bringing extra school supplies for extra credit, that school had more assistance than the other. So I just assumed that's how it already worked.

I don't see an issue with it, if parents can afford to do that why not? It's public school, in a good area with high test scores. At least u don't have to pay a tuition. Small donations here and there to help improve your child's education shouldn't be a problem. In comparison to having to pay tuition from grade school-college

It depends on the district. My friend who is a teacher and I just had this come up at dinner. Her district schools all get the same amount plus the lower income schools get title 1 funding as well. CPS (chicago public schools) though is fucked, they have a serious allocation issue. She completely agreed that reallocation needs to be more thought out at a state level and even national level to help those with socioeconomic issues.

Yep. Although, some districts in my state receive additional state funding to make up for the difference between wealthy and poor areas.

We're looking for a new house after recently selling ours. All the houses with land in the country have AWFUL schools. Over half of the households are below the poverty level. All of the houses within city limits where the richer people live are absolutely fantastic. So we're having to choose between good schools for our kids or having land. We really don't want to live in a subdivision, but private school in the country would be about $25,000 a year once all three boys start school. We're having a very hard time deciding☹️
