Do you think it's okay to send your child to a boarding school for almost the entire duration of their educational years?

Bare in mind most visits would be during holiday breaks, like Easter, summer etc. The answer requires you to place yourself in a mindset where you ARE able to pay for a boarding education. Would you sacrifice your bond for a good education for your child or do you think it's possible to maintain a good healthy relationship whilst not physically being around them?

Noppers! I say this based on my experience at a boarding school for two years. I hated it, the communication between my family was most definitely limited, I could hardly even contact friends that were back at home. I was able to visit home a few times and it was so hard to go back to the school, one time I skipped my flight. I ended up with shingles 3 times and having to be put in quarantine for a week each time with no contact with other people aside from boxes of food being dropped off and phone calls. I hated it. After coming home I didn't have many established relationships, it was a bit of a transition for me. I'm sure not every school is the same and that not every person would feel the same way about going to one. But for me, I hated it and I had a hard time.

Some boarding schools are amazing. And while I recognize that, I wouldn't do it. I'd simply move my ass near to a great private school so my child could get a great education and come home every day. I'm way too selfish. I need to see my children. I didn't have them to ship them off and not raise them. I think there are extenuating home situations that make boarding school an awesome option for some children, but I'm not in any of those extenuating circumstances. Not for my kids.

Now the son of a dimplomat with a job that requires him to be on call 24/7 to serve his country and the greater good of mankind? Maybe boarding school wouldn't be a bad option. I'm just not that important

If I had the money I'd send mine to a good grammar school. Then they would get the education and parental bond

Boarding schools look awesome 🤷‍♀️ at least, the most expensive one in the U.K. do. Not that I could afford that 😂

My sister had some friends in college who went to boarding school, they were from very rural areas and the schools where not only terrible, but also over two hours away from their homes. In cases like this, yes, I probably would. But that's a last resort, it wouldn't be my go to choice.

Personally, it's a good idea for some, but not for all. I want my baby with me, so we could have that strong bond. After, carrying for nine months I would not want to give that up for a long distance relationship or education.

I think it completely depends on the situation. My brother recently (like, last week) started school at a boarding school in Utah, we live in Florida. He's there because it's a specialized school, and he has several disabilities and has relatively severe behavioral issues. He just turned 16. I think that's acceptable, because it's to put him in a place where he will be able to learn to cope with his negative emotions, and they will better be able to teach him educationally. However, I would disagree with it if it were lasting his entire education (k-12).

I think kids going to boarding school purely because their parents can afford it is absolutely ridiculous. If they could learn and do well in a typical school setting, they should be there. I feel like a lot of parents who send their kids to boarding school purely because they can afford it, do it to "buy" their kids way into colleges and university.

I'd only consider it for high school, but I wouldn't force my kid to go. I had several friends in college who went to excellent boarding schools and they loved it. It depends on the kid.
