Fingering

So my SO and I tried fingering yesterday. He was only able to get the first part of his index finger up in there, even with my vagina pulling it in (he told me afterwards). How can I  help him get it up there a little more? I've never been able to get up really far and he got further then me and I was already really turned on. Help?
