Do hospitals treat vaginal childbirth as if it is a medical procedure?

My question is do you believe that hospitals treat vaginal birth as if it is a medical procedure rather than what it is, birth? I've seen people say before that hospitals do this and I was wondering what people's opinion on this are. If you say yes, will you still give birth at a hospital?

Depends on the doctor and hospital. A lot of hospitals do. But I delivered at a very natural friendly hospital with a natural minded dr and midwife in Nebraska. I'll be delivering this one in California-I found a natural minded doctor and hospital (:

I gave birth 8 days ago,
VBAC- so we had to take precautions and it was still treated as a natural process, and only a midwife was present at the actual birth. 
My fiance delivered our son and we weren't pressured or obligated into anything.

Yes most do...thus some of the requirements they have...some are getting a lot better, but unfortunately it's pretty hit or miss. You have to really research the hospital for their policies and procedures...

I don't believe it's a medical event, esp if you're low risk, and I don't wish to be in that environment, so we are having a home birth.

We have a fabulously trained mdiwive and a pretty awesome back up OB.

I planned on giving birth at a birth center and had a pretty negative idea in my mind about hospital births. At 38 weeks I had some complications and had to be induced. Despite everything, I was very happy with the hospital and it totally changed my view on hospital births. Remember that you're in charge! I recommend having a doula and a clear birth plan. Make sure your partner is on board and can be a good advocate for you during labor. Have an ob/midwife that you trust and respects your wishes.
