My grandfathers father is from Italy

My partner doesn't have family abroad

Does our baby still have a chance of having sickle cell anemia

And what does that mean if they do have it.

Don't quote me on this but I think the sickle cell is in African Americans..my baby will be mixed so we have to test them when their born. But my boyfriend doesn't carry the trait so chances are, s/he won't have it!

You and your partner have to carry the trait for sickle cell (doesn't mean you are battling sickle cell) and in turn your baby would have to inherit the gene from the both of you to get sickle cell or be a carrier of the gene. The red blood cell is mishapened and not flexible what can happen is the cell can stick to the vessel wall causing a blockage that can slow or stop blood flow which prevents oxygen from getting to nearby tissue.

Talk to your doctor about it I could give alot of points about it because I have it my second child has the trait and it's a possibility that my third (currently pregnant) will have sickle cell but not in all cases will a child get it when a parent have the trait 1 outta 4 of her kids will have it I chose not to get there early test because it's not going to change anything people live long happy lives with it
