No heart beat?!

Im currently 13w2d and I had my dr appointment, we tried hearing the heart beat but after 5 minutes of the doctor trying we couldn't hear anything. I was obviously scared right away being my first pregnancy. The doctor then said ok let's go switch rooms to do an ultrasound, we did and I saw my little peanut moving around a little but they didn't check again for a heartbeat. When I asked the doctor she said it was because of tissue and of course fat (since I do have a belly lol). So I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

That is the worst feeling ever! I went trough the same thing around 14 weeks with my first son! The nurse came in with the hand hand heart monitor (is that what that is called?) and tried to listen for baby's heart best. After 10 minutes of moving me around and pressing that Doppler hard against my belly, the doctor came in outraged! He was really shocked that she would even try to attempt to hear that heart beat with that machine. He told us to relax and let's move to the other room for an ultrasound. He assured us that the hand hand Doppler isn't always accurate for early pregnancies as baby is behind a lot of tissue, and it tends to scare mommas when they say they can't hear it.

After, we had the ultrasound done, and our little boy was kicking away and moving all over. We did the see the heart beat which was a little slow but went on to have a healthy 41 week pregnancy.

They couldn't detect a heartbeat for my son at 10 weeks, so they sent me in for an internal ultrasound and that's where I heard it. I guess I had a tilted uterus so it was harder to detect. My mom said that when she was pregnant with twins (31 years ago), they never detected a second heartbeat throughout her entire pregnancy. The only reason she knew she was having twins is because at 7 months pregnant, the doctor made her get an ultrasound since she was so big!

This is actually really common. I have had doctors who wouldn't even try before 15 weeks with a Doppler because there is a high chance you won't hear it and it scares the mom. This time, my doc wanted to try at 11 weeks. I told her she probably wouldn't hear anything, as I am overweight to begin with. But she tried and she pushed so hard it hurt! She ended up giving me an ultrasound too and we got to see the baby moving around. :)
