is it faux pas to throw a baby shower for your second pregnancy?

My sister, who threw my first baby shower, is under the impression that it is faux pas the have a second baby shower.

She thinks that I already got everything I needed from the first one and that I shouldn't need anything else.

My daughter will be three in October and to be completely honest I didn't save bottles from when she used them. And diapers obviously have already been gone through!

I feel like since this is a new baby and the new baby will need new/separate things that I should be "allowed" to have a baby shower. But maybe I'm wrong?

One shower only in my opinion. You already have all the big stuff. You as the parent can provide everything else that you need and want

Have one with every kid you don't have to give your kid hand me downs, it's a shower honoring your pregnancy! Even if you had 10 pregnancies you're pregnant and deserve a day to look beautiful and have your baby adored before the arrival. If you have family and friends I'm sure they're be excited to attend and stop by to get you a box of diapers or wipes. My sister just had her 4th baby shower no one is complaining!

My friends threw me a surprise one for both my first and second, it was lovely. If you want a party, have a party. You're pregnant, you deserve it :D

Some people say it is, some people say it isn't. My cousin is on her fifth kid and doesn't expect anything but we have decided to surprise her with a baby "sprinkle"! It'll be much more laid back than a regular baby shower and the invitation says "diaper and wipes shower" instead of registering for big, expensive items.

I think it often depends on the focus of the shower.  I've been to 2nd child showers and the way mum was carrying on about gifts and what they needed prior made me really uncomfortable.  Happy to give a gift but with my pregnancy I've seen it as my responsibility to financially provide for my child (gifts are a lovely bonus).  I've been to others where mum was wanting to celebrate another new arrival (the invitation even said no need for gifts but if inclined x, y,z would be helpful).

Do a sprinkle! They're common now and for smaller things like bottles, diapers, wipes, etc.

I think it's less of a faux pas if it's a different sex, but even then I've heard of doing sprinkles, which are smaller showers. But I wouldn't force anyone (whether directly or passively) to throw you one, especially if your reasoning is "we didn't save any bottles so we need more".

You could always do a sprinkle, which people will bring diapers and wipes and such. It's a bit too much in my opinion to ask people to buy you again a lot of high priced stuff. No judgement I just see what your sister says it's a bit weird to have a full blown shower.

Something very small without a registry and just asking for diapers and wipes etc is acceptable. It's more of a get together for ppl to come see you and celebrate the new baby then asking ppl to buy things for you since this isn't your first child. But everyone is different so do what you feel is right just if your sister doesn't agree wouldn't have her plan it if you are planning that and see if someone else is willing to plan it.
