Rude receptionist?!

Question

Called my doctor's office today to look into prenatal care and the receptionist was soooo judgemental! He asked if the pregnancy was expected and planned, and he asked again if it was a "desired" pregnancy. He didn't need to ask three times if I wanted the baby, especially since I'm trying to arrange pregnancy care for me and the baby! Plus he said, "Well, you're so young, only 21..."
Okay, I might be young, but I'm married, I went to college, I have a job, etc. You don't know my life or my qualifications to be a parent based off of my age!

So. Rude.

I would definitely let your Dr. And office manager know of this situation, that's horrible!

I would tell the dr how he acted when you go in. But if it continues I would find a new dr unfortunately. What a nasty person to say those things. There was a nurse at my obgyn that made me feel like a whore. My ex cheated so I went in and asked to be tested for everything and she was like well maybe you should be more careful who you are with. He cheated not me!!

Sounds like you need to find a new doctors office. They shouldn't be asking those questions if and then since they're only a receptionist. That's between YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR. You can also say based on HIPPA laws I will not provide that answer for you. That's what I do and I've never had a problem since. I hope this helps.

Switch now!! Before you get in too deep! My OB is amazing. I'm 21 as well and it was unplanned and I got married during my 2nd trimester. My nurse was a mom of a girl I went to high school with and still no one has ever made me feel judged.

Ugh I hate this! I'm 24 and pregnant with my first. We planned our baby and I still get people treating me like this 😔 the midwife at my practice was very condescending and must have thought I was a lot younger than I am. Boyfriend said in just being super sensitive but I felt she was looking down on me. Perhaps have a quiet word with your doctor x

If it was just the receptionist I would probably at least go once to see what the doctor is like. When I first called my doctor's office, I found the receptionist to be kind of rude, too. She asked a lot of questions that I didn't expect to be asked during my first phone call and she didn't seem to try very hard to fit me in. But once I had first gone and was their patient, everyone was nice to me: nurses, doctors, radiologists, and even the receptionist. Who knows, maybe she had a bad day or was stressed or whatever. In the end, the doctor is the person who really matters. But if you go in person and still feel uncomfortable or if the doctor is rude, I would switch, too. Maybe you can get a recommendation from a recent new mom.

Wow I would try to find another place. I don't care for my obgyns office or doctor at all and im high risk because I'm pregnant with twins so I'm there every week sometimes twice and it makes me miserable I hate it I wished I would've switched in the beginning but every other place was booked solid. So I would either switch or go see them first see how you like them then make the decision good luck sorry you were treated that way!
