I have both of my ears pierced up top and have had them for close to 5 years. You can change the jewelry at a month but its best to wait about 3 months after getting the piercing to switch to a ring. So you are good to change it to anything now. Just make sure not to leave the hole empty. Some holes can close up in minutes even if you have the piercing for awhile. I made that accident when I was changing my lip ring (it was 3 months old at this point in time) and got called by my mom to do something and had to force the ring in by the time I remembered what I was doing which was 20 minutes later.
