what do you actually need for a newborn?

I am expecting my first child, and of course I want to have a nursery ready for when my little one comes home, BUT I am skeptical. I've heard a lot of different things like don't spend tons on bedding you won't use it, and I never use a glider or the changing table. I'm wondering what items are vital in raising a newborn?

Same here! I've heard all you need is a cot, pram and car seat- I'm seeing all sorts of ridiculous expensive stuff when I'm looking online thinking "WHY"

Car seat 
Diapers of some kind
Place for baby to sleep (a dresser drawer will work)
Some clothes (onesies, hats, socks)
A few swaddling blankets in flannel and muslin

There are lots of things you can buy. Here are a few things we didn't buy and didn't miss:
Baby bathtub 
Crib
Changing table 
Diaper bag (we used a regular backpack)

I have a swing, pack n play, a rock n play, a glider, clothes, diapers as wipes, stroller and car seat, a bath sling, first aid stuff, bottles for feeding, blankets. You can find a lot of good deals on amazon.

In the nursery I have crib, changing table (which I stil use all the time), a glider (which I used some in the beginning) and a twin size bed (which I use all the time)! Clothes, a bassinet for early days! I did not buy any bedding and won't for the next one! Just a waste of money for stuff you never use! Two or three sets of sheets! Good luck momma!

I'm trying to cut out a lot of unnessary things, so we got a crib that converts to a toddler bed, then a full size bed. We also just got a regular dresser and attached the changing pad to the top, since she has a tiny closet. We just pulled our recliner into her room for me to use, as it's very comfy. And then we got a carseat and a stroller because we have a dog we walk daily, and I want the option of a stroller. I also really hope to baby wear, so I got a LilleBaby, and then a cheap Cuddlebug Mei Dai wrap carrier. The only other thing I need is the playpen she's going to sleep in for the first few months.

A changing table which should be placed in a convenient common area...i put ours in the living room
A car seat
Breastfeeding supplies or formula supply like bottles, drying Rack etc
Diapers but don't stock up as baby may be allergic to certain brands
Wipes
Aquaphor
Baby wash
Baby tub unless you are going to bath with baby
Coconut oil
Crib sheets and mattress pads
I recommend three of each
Burp cloths....i use receiving blankets

You NEED: 
- a car seat for coming home. 
- nappies (diapers) 
- something to clean babies bum (wipes, cotton wool or even old rags that you wash)
-blankets for keeping warm (2 is fine because you can wash one and use one) 
- clothes (your personal choice what kind and how many of everything but see above about washing) 
- somewhere for sleeping (Cot, Moses basket etc are fine as is a drawer or even a washing basket!)
- something to change a bum on so there's no mess (changing mat or a towel folded up works fine but so does the floor)

Things I defo need was nappies bottles food and Moses basket.. obviously clothes I have a cot but didn't use it up until now he's 12 weeks.. I found my baby monitors was briliiant! And he loves his play mat ! 
I didn't use changing table only changing mat.
