I feel like I'm the only one who HATES the show. Ive went through bullying & I couldn't stand the fact it felt like they glamorized suicide. Mind game. Sending a message that suicide can be used as revenge.

I feel like the "revenge" aspect was only there to be able to tell the story. I don't think that's the message it gives off. I don't think it would have drawn as much attention if it was someone telling people about the reasons why Hannah killed herself. I don't think I would've been so drawn to it if it was her mom reading out of her diary or something per say. It was her, telling her own story, and making it real. It's controversial because it's real. People go through these events and emotions all around us, like you, like me, like everyone at one point or another. I think it made a good point of showing that not everyone can speak up about how they feel or what they go through and that we should be more aware of people's behavior and learn to be there for those that need us.

This show romantasises and glamorises suicide, creates an unrealistic and quite frankly ridiculous image of depression and promotes suicide as a reasonable option to your problems after a long thought process, with no viable alternative.

It's inaccurate and dangerous and needs to be censored appropriately to avoid young at risk people from believing and reenacting this girl's decisions.

I found it triggering. But I don't feel like that is the shows fault. I knew it was about suicide. I knew it would likely be triggering, and I watched it anyways. I ignored the disclaimers and kept watching. Lol so that is 100% on me.

I enjoyed it though. I don't feel like it glorified suicide. It was telling the story from the point of view of someone who was suicidal; it was supposed to help people understand the reasons behind it. Understand how badly words can hurt, and understand the perspective of someone who is depressed. It wasn't saying "it's cool to kill yourself. "

Personally, I think it was a good representation of what actually goes on, and I dont think the point was for them to say that you can use it as revenge, but I think they were trying to show that what you say and do to people can hurt them and push them over the edge. I love the show and I love the book. It might not hit every single point but it shows any young kid, teen, and adult that sometimes people close to you are hurting and you won't know until there's nothing you can do. But I respect your opinion and your views.

I won't watch it. My grandfather/father committed suicide less than 6 months ago because of his mental illness and I watched him deteriorate months up till his passing I don't want to relive it through a tv show.

I being someone who has gone through alot of these things, apart from the sexual abuse, I think it was a pretty good representation of these issues. There were things they kinda failed to touch on, like the presence of mental illness in basically everyone who was involved. And they also did dramatize the story a little bit, but the message it gave was fantastic. I've dealt with depression for over 8 years now, and watching that show I remembered feeling that way and being that sad, and it hurt quite a bit to watch. But once I finished it it made me happy to be able to say I never had to turn to what Hannah did, and made me reflect on how far I've come and make me want to work harder to get better and help others like me who also need help. The show is fantastic, in my opinion.

I think the common misconception is that it's about mental illness. It is not about her being depressed, bipolar, schizophrenic, or anything like that. (However, You could argue that in the end she has PTSD from the rape)It's about BULLYING and the long term effects it has on a specific character. It's about how people's inactions and not caring let her go down that path and I think it did a very good job at it. However I wouldn't recommend it to someone who isn't mentally stable or anyone younger than 17 or 18. It's very heavy subject matter.
