So I went for my first ever Pap smear and I found out I tested positive for a strand of HPV. I've literally never seen a wart before and the only person I've ever slept with is my fiancé (sad but true) 😭 what the fuck?! Am I dying? How do I clear this up?

I was diagnosed with HPV over a year ago and am currently 8 months pregnant. I had cryotherapy to remove cells that were cancerous. I hadn't gotten a pap in 7 years. HPV is becoming one of the most common STIs around. You can literally get it from sitting in a public jacuzzi or sauna.  People who don't even sleep around get it from the one partner they had. It doesn't mean he or she slept around either, it's just really really common. It's not always nasty warts and pus. It can go undetected for decades. You will have it for the rest of your life but will go dormant which means you can continue to have sexual relations with your partner, have children, etc. You will be fine as long as you follow up with your doctor and do as they say.

HPV often has no symptoms. About 1/3 of sexually active people have been exposed to it and most strains are harmless.

I'm sorry I have to laugh ! You sound like me ! I was diagnosed with hpv back In march. I wanted to cry because in my head I was like wtf I got a sti???? Looked at my bf like I wanted to kill him! . So after all of that my dr explained to me that they have to do a coloscopy (sp?) and that basically a Pap smear but they open you up a lot more and use a microscope (I think ) and snip a piece of your cervix to see what level of precancerous cells that you have . Typically to my knowledge if your a level one they will say to come back in three months . If your lucky like me , you will have level two/three which means your close to cancer . I got the leep procedure April 25. And got clear margins from the precancerous cells last week. The leep procedure is when they basically shave (for lack of a better word) the part of your cervix that has the bad cells . The procedure wasn't bad for me cause I was put to sleep. But the YouTube video that I watched with females saying they were awake said the procedure was horrible

My HPV strain was found in 2009 when I was pregnant with my first. My doctor used the watch and wait approach. I had paps every 3 months and countless colposcopies. My strain progressed to the stage before cancer in a matter of months that I had a leep proceedure in 2014 to get rid of the affected cells on my cervix. My body never cleared the strain I had, however since my leep my paps have tested negative. I had my second child in 2016, with no issues.  Follow doctor recommendations, there are many types that affect people differently.

HPV doesn't go away 
But depending on what stage there are different treatment options.

I’m the same way my doctor told me I was positive for hpv and she said I have abnormal cells plus I have pcos so when I asked her about cancer cells she said I had none at all but then I had to get tested to cancer cells by a cervix colonoscopy the worst pain I have ever felt in my life !!!!!  It’s so stressful
