Can you stay friends with your ex?

It got me thinking yesterday so I became curious. I asked my SO and he said yes and that he's actually friends with his ex. I personally don't believe in friendship after breaking up. What do you guys think?

Yes you most definitely can, my ex has children now and I call them my nephews. There is no attraction between us at all. I have known him so long he's like family. And my ex husband and I are friends, we have children together and being friends makes for easy co parenting. You can do it if your mature about it and both parties don't have feelings any longer.

I think it honeslty depends on how serious the relationship was, how deep the feelings were, and how long you were together. For someone to stay friends with an ex, it seems like it would be possible per say if you weren't too serious (no future plans), no deep connection, and/or only lasted a few months. Other then that it's best to leave them behind you were they belong.

I think it depends on the relationship you had with them. I dated a boy in 10th grade and we are still friends. The relationship was a glorified friendship lol. we never got anywhere mostly bc I was an in the closet lesbian lol.

If it was a mutual breakup, maybe. If it wasn't messy, there's no reason you can't. I was for a time. He and I were more friends than, bf/gf to begin with anyways. So there were no hard feelings, and we would talk occasionally. Catch up on each others lives, like friends do. Even when I started dating my now husband. Everything was fine until my ex went off to college. Out of the blue, blew up on me when I made a joke about being tired because I just had a baby. Apparently his friend had had a stroke or something, of course I didn't know and he thought I was being insensitive. So he blocked me on everything 😂😂 to this day I haven't talked to him, been 2 years. So, maybe not a good example but I honestly don't see anything wrong with it
