Why just why?

Question

Why do drugs when your pregnant or around children period? 
Are you that selfish?
 Do you not know how bad that is or do you just not care?

Let me know if you can give me an answer why.

I was addicted to heroin when I found out I was pregnant. Withdrawing from that is not fun.. At all. Addiction is a serious and debilitating issue. It's hard to quit. You need a lot of willpower and most importantly, great resources. I was able to go to an amazing rehab center/hospital but it was pricey as hell. Most people can't really afford that. Yes it's sad and people shouldn't do drugs while pregnant, but often, the drugs take over your mind and you can't have your own thoughts because the addition is there.

Because addiction is a real thing and difficult to overcome, and we a society focus on throwing addicts in prison instead of getting them proper help.

Maybe do some research on addiction before you judge 😩

Often people who are addicted to drugs will try to get off them for the sake of the baby but actually end up miscarrying because the babies already addicted... so being a heavy heroine user and then finding out your three months pregnant well you can't go cold turkey. Baby is addicted.

Yes it's horrible. But nobody "chooses" to get addicted. Instead of hate. We should spread love and care to those mothers

I'm married to an addict. We struggle,  absolutely, but hes a wonderful man. He's struggled to  quit, and he started fighting even harder after our son was born. I know its hard for him because it's an addiction, like so many commenters have already mentioned. It's a mental amd emotional battle that he has to fight everyday. When he's  really struggling, he asks me to intervene. We go on walks a lot. Nonetheless, He has good and bad days. Addiction will be apart of him the rest of his life; it's a journey. Addiction is a battle that affects body , mind, and soul. Addicts need people who can support them, and not judge them.

People addicted to drugs don't have much of a choice. There's a need for the drug in their brain that they can't help. They'll do anything to get the drug even if they see that it's hurting their loved ones because without it they can't function. Quitting a drug is a painful process and really hard to do before they've hit rock bottom. So please don't call them selfish. It's not that they hate their families but that they don't think they can live without drugs. I know how it might upset you- I was in the same place. My cousin is addicted to heroin and she can't kick it. She was doing drugs during 3 pregnancies and the 2nd was stillborn. I thought she was the most horrible person because of it. Both her kids were taken from her, and it's not because she doesn't love them. She does love them. It's because she can't quit the heroin no matter how many times she's sent into rehab.

I agree that addiction is a HARD thing to overcome..

But if you've been in rehab, you keep having help offered to you, and you continue...

What's your excuse then?
