Breastfeeding help!!😭😭😭

Mindy • I like my puns intended.

First time mommy struggling here 😣

He was born 5 days ago. When he latched for the first time he latched beautifully, the first 2 nights were amazing as well. Then it's gotten worse since then. The nurses at the hospital gave me a nursing shield and that's the only way he seems to latch now.... flat nipples 😔

Only problem is, now, he's having a hard time latching to anything. He tries so hard and gets so frustrated and that makes me so frustrated for him and we both end up crying. It takes a good 10 to 15mins sometimes just to get a latch. Which by then I've got a SUPER HUNGRY angry baby 😢 He will have it in his mouth and shake his head back and forth trying so hard but not being able to successfully get the position. I have to pull him away, calm him down and try again, over and over again... and I have to try all different positions, there's not a "go to" position that just works for him, like one time football hold will work another time it wont or cradle or Cross cradle or laying side by side or on my stomach.... I'm not sure how to help him and it breaks my heart😟

Also when he finally gets latched he will try to pull back, idk getting comfortable and I literally have to thrust my chest forward to make sure I don't break latch because ik the struggle we'll have if we do, and I can't just pull him back in towards me when he's adjusting because it will make him upset and struggle more and then break latch. 😧

I'll get in touch with a lactation consultant but with this being a holiday weekend I thought I'd put my feelers out for some help here till I do. And I'll ask my pediatrician about being tongue or lip tied.

I'm not even sure if I've got my milk in yet... I think it is, but how do you know for sure?? Is this normal first week trial and error?
