Dock-A-Tot Use

What exactly is the dock-a-tot used for? I have two bassinets and a crib. Not getting a playyard because I think they are ugly and hubby and I are too tall for all of them (hubs is 6'8"). Would a dock-a-tot be worth the money and for what? LOL
