breastfeeding advice please?

Hey y'all, I plan to breastfeed and if she doesn't latch I plan to pump as long as my supply allows this route for me. I'm being optimistic! can anyone give me some tips or advice? I have heard that the breastfeeding route can be painful and trying and would love to be prepared with any advice or home remedies that y'all have had luck with! Thank you!!

It's painful at first as it's a new sensation and the baby may notatch correctly. Also it gets painful if your nipples get cracked and dry. If this happens, put some lanolin cream on them. Do that anyway for prevention though. Otherwise, if it's hurting, it's probably because the baby isn't latched right. It doesn't just generally hurt to breastfeed once you get used to it. I've had it pretty easy with breastfeeding and I love it! Good luck!

Head to llli.org and find your local Leche League. You can go to meetings now and when baby comes. It's SO helpful.

I went in unprepared and optimistic. It's the worst thing I ever did. I had a really difficult time and didn't have the knowledge to figure my way around the issues.

I agree with the comments. At first it's painful. These babies don't know what they're doing haha. My first son would have his mouth open looking for the nipple and I'm like it's right here. Close your mouth. It's like he could smell the milk but couldn't figure out how to do it. When it hit him like oh here it is he bit down hard with his gums. Every time in the beginning. My second son had my nipples bleeding before we even left the hospital to go home. I swear I love them but I also wanted to murder them haha. Once they got the hang of it which was maybe after a week it was smooth sailing. So happy I stuck with it because it was so much easier than having to prep bottles. One suggestion is when you go to remove them from the breast put your finger in the side of the mouth to hold it open. If not they may bite down on you.

My son wouldn't latch properly because I have inverted nipples. I pumped and fed for 7 months. It wasn't so bad. I wished I could feed him from the breast as it is so much easier than pumping (going out anywhere was a pain). But it worked out with the pumping. So if you can't feed from the breast it's ok, pumping can work just as well.
