In Canada, technically nannies are considered employees not self employed so employers should take out money for income tax and your pension as well as pay into your penision ans employment insurance.

With that said, since you are an employee you are entitled to the same rights as any other employer which is time and a half on holidays

Technically no.  Hours are based on the agreement you and the family make.  This is why it's always best to have a written contract.  My last nanny position I was screwed over because I didn't force a contract.  Normally if I cancelled on a work day then they would not need to pay me but if they cancelled on a day I was scheduled then they still had to pay.  That didn't end up happening.  There was no holiday pay and there were a good two months I hardly worked or got a paycheck due to their vacations and medical things.  Either way sit down and ask them to clarify the situation or put your foot down and demand it.
