Birth Story

Taylor L

My birth didn't go as planned but I am so happy to have my baby it doesn't matter. So here it goes:

My water broke at 2:00am June 6. Unfortunately it looked like sweat and discharge so I ignored it. Around 10:30am it became greenish brown and bloody so I called my ob. They told me to immediately get to l and d. I struggled to get a ride (it was my husband's first day of work) due to being home alone. Contractions started to get unbearable around 2, coming 3 minutes apart. I finally got to the hospital at 4 after an hour and a half drive. Around 4:30 they confirmed it was my water and that my poor little girl had pooped in the womb. They immediately started me on antibiotics since I went 14 hours with broken water. I was only 2cms. Due to the lack of progress (I was a two over a week before) I was given potion. I labored for 18 hours before asking for iv meds. Around 20 hours I was checked again and was still at a 2 so my nurse stretched me to 3.5, my doctor then pushed me to get the epidural because I was in so much pain I was running a fever of 102.4 and shaking uncontrollably even though I had one dose of medication. I agreed with her only because my husband begged me. It took two hours but at 22 hours of labor, I got the epidural. I tried to tell them it hurt but no-one believed me. "It's just pressure" as I cried and screamed. Even my husband bawled with me. I felt them put in my catheter, which burned and hurt the whole labor, and could only get the epidural to work on my right side. No one believed me. They tried to put me on my left side to get the meds down but my daughter would go into stress so I couldn't. Around 4 am (26 hours) the pain got so intense I couldn't do anything but shake and cry. I waited until 4:30 to call my nurse because she was supposed to check on me 10 minutes after the pain started. They checked and her head was already there, you could see it! At 5:00am I started pushing, without my doctor, and at 5:18 our Luna Storm was born. My sister in law cut the cord and then NICU took her due to her pooping. My husband stayed with her.

After delivery I just kept getting weaker, my placenta wouldn't budge and the umbilical cord started to rip. After 45 minutes of trying to remove the placenta both manually and me pushing/doctor massaging, they started to prep me for an emergency d&c. I didn't get out of surgery until 8:00am. I had lost so much blood I almost needed a transfusion and I couldn't move. They took me to my room where my friends and family were around 9 and I saw my baby. Around 10 I could finally hold her and honestly I've barely let her go since.

This is my first child and now I can never deliver vaginally but it's okay. She's perfect, beautiful, I cry thinking about it. 19 inches. 7lbs. Strawberry blond and blue eyes. I love her with everything I am. It's going to be a long recovery. Even though I'm home I can barely move, I can't control when I pee or poo. But at least I have her. My little moonchild.

Congratulations - she's beautiful!  I'm sorry you had a traumatic birth experience, but glad you're okay.

God Bless you! I know that was so hard to go through but you are a WONDER WOMAN! Don't ever forget that! Only women can do what you do and still manage to have a smile on your face. Congrats on your baby girl and all the best in your recovery.
